Banana: My Favorite Fruit

When it comes to fruit,my first choice would be a banana. The doctor said I should avoid all kinds of yellow fruits as it can trigger asthma, but I can’t avoid this fruit. I like the taste of this fruit so much that I love to eat this anytime of the day. Aside from that, did you know that it has lots of health benefits? Here’s a list why this fruit is good for you.

1. It is a rich source of Potassium. People with low levels of Potassium in the body are advised to eat this and it has indeed improved their health.

2.Bananas is a rich source of iron, high in fiber and a good source for vitamin C(Red bananas contain more vitamin C than yellow bananas .)

3.It contains three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy (No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes). Most people who also goes to the gym find this fruit beneficial.

4. It’s good for people with High Blood pressure. It is because it is low in salt and extremely high in potassium.

5. It has also good benefits on other body ailments such as anemia (rich source of iron), Stomach ulcer (banana has a natural antacid) and Constipation (high in fiber), Diarrhea (Bananas also contain electrolytes, which are essential for maintaining fluid levels and preventing dehydration).

The Chocolate Fountain

It was such a lovely site when I first saw a chocolate fountain. I like the presentation of the chocolate because it looks unique and fun. I tried it and thought to have it in a children’s party. I’m sure kids would love to dip in mallows and of course their fingers into this yummy fountain. We tried it in our church’s Christmas Party. The funny thing was it didn’t last longer since the kids were glued to it and they consumed it in less than an hour. Anyway, the important thing is they had so much fun.

For most parties and special events, the chocolate fountain is now being used to add beauty to the occasion. To some, instead of having a very big cake on their wedding, they will just have to choose a simple cake and have a chocolate fountain. I love to have this during my wedding but I’m already out of budget at that time. Anyway, if you have the money why not have this one.

Fish Ball Starter

This is the first recipe I’ve tried cooking. I’ve learned to cook this in my culinary arts class. This food is good for people who don’t like to eat pork. What’s good about this is that, it is very healthy and very economical. You might want to try cooking this. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

400 g (14 oz) white fish fillet (wash the fish thoroughly)
3 cups water (for boiling)
1/2 meduim onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup chopped spring onions
3/4 cup flour
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
250 ml (1 cup) oil
wooden toothpicks (optional)

For the Sweet & Sour Sauce:
100g (1/2) cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
60 ml (1/4) cup tomato ketchup
125 ml (1/2 cup vinegar
2 tbsp. cornflour dissolved in 259 ml or 1 cup of water.

Procedure:
1.Clean the fish fillets well, making sure to remove any remaining fish bones.
2. Put water iin a pot and bring to boil.
3. Drop fillets into water & let it cook for about 5 minutes or until flesh is slightly firm but not flaky. Remove from water.
4. Mash fillets and mix with onions, garlic, spring onions, flour, eggs, season with salt and pepper. Mix thorougly to form a smooth batter. Shape the batter into small balls.
5. Heat the oil in a wok. Put the balls in one by one making sure each ball is completely submerged in the oil for even cooking. You may have to cook the balls by batches. Cook until fish balls are lightly brown.
6. Remove from heat and drain on paper towels.
7. Skewer 2 fish balls into toothpicks if desired and serve with sweet and sour sauce.

You can make about 30 fish ball starters. Preparation time is about 40 minutes and the cooking time is approximately 20 minutes.

How to prepare the Sweet & Sour Sauce:
1.Mix the sugar, salt, tomato ketchup, and vinegar in a saucepan.
2.Simmer over low heat until sugar dissolves. Stir in the cornflour and water mixture.
3. Simmer, stirring, occasionally until the sauce thickens.
Remove from heat and set aside.
