Let's Do the Boogie!
My nickname is Boogie and I’m sure my parents got my name from this famous dance. What is this dance anyway?
I searched online and according to Wikipedia, the name boogie-woogie is used mostly in Europe; the closest thing in the US is probably East Coast Swing. What today is called boogie-woogie would during the 1950s have been called rock’n'roll. The term boogie woogie is confusing; the dance can be danced to the music style called boogie-woogie but is most often danced to rock music of various kinds. The name was taken since the name rock’n'roll used in competition dance was already taken by a highly acrobatic dance form. Boogie woogie as a competition dance is a led dance, not choreographed, and contains no acrobatic elements.
The usual step variation of this dance is a six beat dance pattern, usually cued as “step, step, tri-ple step, tri-ple step”, with words “step” taking a whole beat and pieces “tri” and “ple” together taking one beat. Triple forms a syncopated step, where “ple” is typically somewhat delayed from being in the half way between the beats, which matches the syncopated music used in boogie-woogie has also counts like “one” “two” “one” “two” “three”.
Jim Brickman: The Gift
When I am working with my computer I usually listen to some relaxing music. The music helps me think especially when I am not in the mood to write. For today, I browsed over to Jim Brickman’s music and listen to it. Jim is known to be a great pianist and a great singer of love and romance. I listened to one of his songs entitled, “The Gift” and this song just captivated my heart. Actually, I have heard this song many times already but I’m not tired of listening to it over and over again. In fact I always hear this song during weddings and valentines day but I still love it. I also like Jim Brickman’s other songs like “My Destiny”, “Your Love”, “My Valentine”, “The Love I Found in You” and many more.
You can watch the video of the song “The Gift” HERE. Enjoy watching!
