The Pulmonary Function Test

It’s my Day 5 here in the hospital and the doctor said that I will have to stay for one more day. He even told me that I will have to undergo a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) this afternoon. He told me that the PFT is a test to measure how well my lungs take in and release air.

I was curious about the test so I Googled a bit so that I will be prepared for it. I was happy to know that the test doesn’t involved needles and the like but all I need to do is blow and inhale air through the use of a special gadget.

Afternoon came and it was time for me to take the test. The Nurse explained to me how the test is done and in front of the computer screen, there’s a picture of a cake with lots of candles. My aim was to blow all the candles as much as I can. At the back of my mind, it was very easy but I only got four candles and the rest was still lighted. The Nurse was so kind to help me inhale and release air, and good thing I got a normal result.

For all of you who are not so familiar about this test, it looks like the photo below.

  1. Good to know that the result is normal. Get well soon!

  2. This is one technology that I would love to be able to use for myself. It’s definitely a cut above the rest and I can’t wait until my provider has it. Your insight was what I needed. Thanks
